Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie
You may have seen these giant cookies at the mall. You have to order them in advance and then go back to pick them up. Why not make them at home for a fraction of the price? They're quick and easy, and make an impressive presentation for Valentine's Day, birthdays, or any special occasion.
1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup butter, room temperature 6 tablespoons granulated sugar 6 tablespoons light brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1 egg 1 (6 ounce) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
To decorate: About 4 oz. chocolate (your choice of semi-sweet, dark, or milk chocolate) You can use chips or a bar chocolate broken into pieces
In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. In a larger bowl, beat together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Add the vanilla and egg. Stir well to combine. Add the flour mixture. Blend in well. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts.
Preheat oven to 375-degrees F. Spread the cookie dough evenly onto the ungreased 12 to 14-inch diameter baking pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes. Carefully transfer cookie to a wire rack and allow to cool completely.
To decorate: Put chocolate chips or broken chocolate bar into a microwave-safe bowl Microwave on high for 1 minute. Remove and stir. If the chocolate is not completely smooth, return to microwave for intervals of 30 seconds until no lumps remain.
Transfer the warm chocolate to a pastry bag with a writing tip or a small plastic storage bag. If you are using a plastic bag, cut off a tiny corner of the bag to allow the chocolate to flow smoothly from it. Write your sentiment, "I Love You", "Happy Birthday Day" or something romantic in the middle of the cookie. You may want to practice first on a piece of waxed paper. Then with whatever chocolate is remaining in the bag, make a decorative edge.
